No Love for NKOTB

My son, the 7 year old little shithead that he is, has taken to making fun of me and my love for NKOTB. I can thank his father for that.

Anywho....the other day in the car, NKOTB is playing and my son in the backseat, tells me again that they are the "Old Farts on the Block" (hardy har har ... sooooo funny!)

So, my mom, who's in the car with us, tells him that word (fart) is really not appropriate, and that it's kind of like a bad word.

There's some playful banter, and I tell him maybe he should use the word "air biscuit" instead. The talk of NKOTB fizzles out, when suddenly he pipes up again:

"Okay, so you like the Old Air-Biscuits on the Block then"

*sigh*

Boob-A-Thon '09 (Round 1)

Where are you going on vacation this year?

We don't travel all that much, though it's not for lack of wanting to. It's mostly that prior to 2006, our kids were still so young and traveling was too much of a burden than anything else. Now that they are a little older, it's a bit easier, but generally still leaves me needing a vacation from the vacation.

We were lucky that in 2006, I won a trip to Disney World. How fantastic that I was able to take my kids to such a magical place, with practically no money out-of-pocket. We came back home with the WDW-Bug, and the itch to go back was bad.

We knew we couldn't swing it yearly, and had hopes of possibly making Disney World our every-other-year family vacation. Around this time, my folks let us know that the family would be going again - on them. So we packed up the car last September and headed back to the World. It was my folks first time there, and I think they came back with the Bug, too. (even though I thought for sure that they'd feel once was enough)

They've mentioned doing it again (though not paying, darn! LOL!), and we are hopeful to make our every-other-year trip in 2010.

Since this year is an "off" year and that I took a pretty drastic paycut, things will probably be very mild this year (much like many other years).

We are hoping to take a trip later this summer to Connecticut to see family and venture to NYC while there. Other than that, this summer is wide open, and hubby needs to schedule his vacation time with work. Now to decide when to take off and what to do.

Any ideas? What are your plans this summer?

Another Bullet Kind Of Day

Just a potluck of a post today....lots of random tidbits.

• Mom had a follow-up doctor appointment today. She needs to wait until next month for another xray to check the spot on her lung. Which means another month of worrying.
• I'm almost thru my first week of shorter hours. I have to say that I'm diggin' getting out of work at 2, but ask me how I feel once I've got my first paycheck with my new salary.
• I've got a headache. Again. I take ibuprofen often and I can only imagine the damage I'm doing to my stomach.
• I meet NKOTB exactly 4 weeks, or 28 days, from today.
• I made 2 new recipes this week which were fabulous.
• I changed my blog background to be a bit more springy. I can't wait for winter to be OVER!
  
  
  
  
  

Sometimes paradise isn't far

Recently we decided to surprise the kids with a weekend getaway to Key Lime Cove, which is about an hour north of us. We didn't tell them ahead of time, and I packed the suitcase without them knowing and loaded the car while they were at school.

They were curious as to why I was going to be picking them both up from school that day, and that we were heading to go pick up daddy from work right away, but they didn't question much.

We just talked about where we were going to go eat for dinner and they tried to talk us into Chuck E Cheese. It wasn't until we were headed straight for Key Lime Cove's parking lot that the signs were spotted and my son yelled out "IT'S KEY LIME COVE! I WAS GOING TO TELL YOU GUYS THAT I WANT TO GO THERE!!!" My husband asked "How about we go there now?"





They still didn't quite get it even after we went inside and stood in line to check-in that we were staying. My son, with sad eyes, says "But mom, we can't go in there." (as he looks thru the window at the water park) and I ask why, and he replies "Because we don't have any of our stuff. Our swimming suits."



And I tell him not to worry, that I packed them, and that the suitcase was in the car. They were beyond thrilled! And it was a nice time - that is until Saturday afternoon when security came up and knocked on our room door to let us know our car had been broken into. Yeah, not impressed with that. Not sure what security does in the meantime - because they certainly weren't patrolling the parking lot at all, seeing as how it was a spa employee that reported it. And for $250 a night, well, you'd think there would at least be security cameras or something. Yeah, not so much.

But anywho....the kids had a fabulous time. I think we spent a good 5-6 hours total at the water park before our weekend was so rudely interrupted. It wore the kids out, because once we were in the car on the way home, they were both out within minutes.





We may go back someday....right now the whole traumatic car experience is still too fresh in my mind.

Let's Play Molly Homemaker

My new hours started today, and since I'll be home by 3pm, I figured now was the best time to start getting myself in the kitchen more. And by that I mean cooking - not just popping something into the microwave.

It just so happens that while I had the week off from work, I tried out a couple new recipes. Homemade mac & cheese (don't ask me how it was because I didn't try it - I only eat Kraft - LOL! - And yes, I'm being serious!) and corn dog muffins, which I will be sharing the recipe with you.

These bad boys are super easy & they were delicious. Forget buying corn dogs - these blow them away! Yum! Serve them with pork & beans or some kind of BBQ bean and you've got a quick (and cheap!) meal.



Corn Dog Muffins

INGREDIENTS:
1 (8.5oz) package cornbread/muffin mix
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup grated or shredded Cheddar cheese
5 hot dogs, cut in half

(Recipe will make 10 muffins)

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat over to 400. Lightly grease muffin tins.

Stir together the cornbread mix and the brown sugar in a large bowl. Whisk the eggs and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Fold the egg mixture and cheese into the dry
mixture until moistened. Spoon mixture into muffin tins until 2/3 full. Add half of a hot dog to each muffin.

Bake 14 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown.
